THE RADIANCE OF MIRRORS

ALL THE SECRETS OF THE WORLD LIVE IN MIRRORS

THEY SHOW THEMSELVES THERE, PERFECTLY INVISIBLE

AND ONE SHOULD NEVER TOUCH THEM

BECAUSE THEY KILL.

WHEN YOU FIND YOURSELF, WOMAN, BEFORE ONE OF THOSE FORTUNE TELLERS       OF CRYSTAL MERCURY

ANCHOR YOUR BOATS, DON'T HIDE YOUR DREAD

YOUR BEES REMAINED THERE FOREVER

LEARNING TO FLY

AND THERE, STILL, ARE THE SQUIRRELS

YOU ONCE OWNED

YOUR TREES IN BLOOM

THE FLOCK OF LAMBS THAT YOU'D HIDE

TO MARK THE ROAD.

WHEN THE MIRROR REFLECTS YOUR ILLUMINED EYES

OPEN YOUR EARS AND WAIT

YOU MAY BE STRUCK BY A TRILL, A CHORUS, THE MURMUR OF THE SEA

EVERYTHING HAS BEEN LEFT THERE AMIDST ITS INNUMERABLE CONTOURS.

THAT'S WHY I AVOID THEM

TREMBLE BEFORE THEIR SILENT POWER

I'M PLAGUED BY THEIR LOGIC ABOUT TIME

AND THE FRAILTY OF THE STARS.

THE MIRROR IS A SEVERE JUDGE

LORD

KEEPER OF THOUGHTS AND CAN BETRAY YOU.

IF INSTEAD OF HONEYSUCKLE, IT OFFERS YOU

A MATCH

OR A MULTITUDE OF TINY FISH WITHOUT WATER

DON'T GIVE THEM YOUR HANDS

RELEASE THEM

AND THE MIRROR WILL LEARN TO GIVE YOU HERBS AND SEEDS

FOR THE NEXT PLANTING.

I KNOW THE POWER OF MIRRORS

THAT'S WHY I NEVER SPEAK TO THEM

AS SOON AS I SEE THE SMALL, INEVITABLE MISERIES

SHOW THEIR FACES

WITH ALL THEIR TEMPTATIONS

I GRAB MY GREEN CAPE

MY HAWKS, MY MALACHITE SHIELD

AND I GO OUT TO SEE THE SHADOWS

AND THE TINSEL PASS

WHERE THEY CAN NEVER REACH ME.
